WHEN WILL JESUS RETURN?
"The Times and the Seasons"
pt. 1 (amplified)
Paul implies the Church would know the times and seasons:
1 Th 5:1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
This passage is implying that the judgment would come when the world is saying peace and safety. Paul also says we are not of darkness that this day would come on us as a thief.
The peace and safety statement appears to be a direct reference to a prior teaching of Paul about the Lord returning as a thief in the night. Paul says that the day of wrath would come suddenly upon the world when the people of the world are saying peace and safety.
So we have to ask, when does that take place in scripture?
We see in Revelation that it occurs at the mid point of the seventh week of Daniel. People are saying peace and safety and throwing a worldwide party after the two prophets of God that tormented them for 42 months are killed by the Beast (Rev 11:10).
In case you think that Paul could not know these end time events, I will remind you that Paul was taken to the Third Heaven (2 Cor 12:2-4) and while there Paul probably got educated on Church eschatology.
I think Paul is telling us in the above passage that the Church will know when the time is short by being aware of the signs of the times .
While people have debated Systematic Theology as a study of and a proving by man's understanding of Scripture. The failure of this type of Greek thinking is linear logic and not revelatory Biblical Scripture as God said HE would reveal to us.
People for get the most basic thought God has given us in Revelation of Himself, His Will and End Times.
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
The Assurance of This is that we can know if our sourcing is God Himself and not "our own understanding.
