Christian Youth of America
By Dale V. Nobbman
Dear Christian Youth of America,
The United States of America is in ‘big time’ trouble—and your America needs your help! The America you live in is struggling in most every way possible—spiritually, morally, financially, politically, and socially. Historically, America has been the best nation on earth to be born in, grow up in, and live in, ever since our founding back in 1776. The freedom and liberties America has provided to its own citizens, and has offered to people of various nations everywhere around the world, is unprecedented.
Why there is such a concentrated effort today to tear down and destroy the America we baby-boomer adults grew up with is incomprehensible to me, but it’s obvious we adults are failing in our responsibility to God to keep this a Christian nation honoring Him for all the many blessings He has bestowed upon this country over the years. It’s easy to understand the hostile actions taken against us by avowed enemies from other countries, but it is unthinkable, that seemingly, a sizable segment of our own nation’s citizens (seemingly the radical, liberal left segment) want to dismantle their own country!!! WHY??? For what sane reason would anyone want to replace the very foundation stones of the best democratic-republic nation in the history of the world? Every nation that has risen to power under some other form of government and tried to force its corrupt and evil regime on others, without God as its cornerstone, has crumbled and failed—and so will America if we totally abandon, in all institutions of our society, the Christian principles and values established by Almighty God and our American ‘founding fathers.’
It’s clear that we are in the midst of a spiritual warfare in America, a war begun by Satan. Biblical scripture warns us to “be on the alert, your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8) This can be the only logical explanation why America would allow apostasy and all sorts of evils to become prevalent in our society. Satan is overtly trying to get our historically Christian nation to ‘implode’ upon itself as he seeks to ‘devour’ the United States of America by deceptively capturing the hearts and minds of American youth—and distracting people from focusing on God.
Satan is constantly ‘conditioning’ Americans, especially the youth, to ‘fall away from the truth’ which is one definition of apostasy. Satan was devising his plan of ‘conditioning’ back when we current adults were the youth of America back in the 1960’s. It’s not hard to see why America has ‘fallen away’ from the truth today when you consider that our country is now being run by the ‘hippies’ of yesteryear, as well as, the sons and daughters of that hippie generation. The hippie movement dating back to the latter half of the 1960’s, was the first age of prolific drug use in America, an era of ‘free love’ promoting an immoral lifestyle, and an anti-establishment ‘anything goes’ way of thinking. It all led to the gradual demise of the traditional values regarding family and personal relationships in America. Yes, many of the youth from that age are now in positions of power and controlling the direction of America today. How’s that for a warm, comforting feeling?
Christian principles and values in this country took a ‘big hit’ in the 1960’s and the ripple effect from those days continues right into today and this generation of American youth. The ‘flower power’ movement was actually the second part of a ‘double whammy’ to America within the course of a decade—coming shortly after the Supreme Court had begun the process of removing Christianity out of public schools in the early 1960’s.
Is it really any surprise why we have mass killings in such places as Columbine and now Aurora, Colorado, at the hands of ‘lost’ young Americans? For the most part, the Christian foundations, principles, and values found in American families, schools, churches, and other institutions of America over the first couple hundred years of our nation’s existence have been constantly chiseled away at over the last few decades. Imagine if those young men mentioned above had been reached with Christianity, rather than filled with evil influences and used by Satan as instruments to deliver death, injury and suffering to innocent victims. Those dreadful events and many other crimes would likely never happen if the youth of today were reached with Christianity in greater numbers. The sad truth though is that all of us Americans are being ‘conditioned’ by the schemes of the devil to one extent or the other, depending on how much of the ‘full armor of God’ we put on (Ephesians 6:11-17) to resist evil Satanic influences in this nation.
We are bombarded daily with ‘conditioning’ by Satan for the coming day when he installs his ‘Anti-Christ’ as the world leader at the start of the Tribulation period. Yes, the devil is conditioning Americans and people worldwide, especially the youth, by countless means, but primarily through world events leading us towards a one world government and commerce, through increasing persecution of Christian activity, including our own anti-Christian American government legislation, through our public school system curriculum, through the promotion of immoral and deviant behavior on television, in the movies, and through today’s music, through so-called computer ‘games’ glorifying killing and evils of every kind, through ‘big brother’ technology keeping an increasing eye on all of us, and now through an increasing sophistication of tech gadgets and social networking intended to keep us all ‘connected’ no matter where we are or where we go. Yes, Satan is preparing technology to make it possible for everyone around the world to view the Anti-Christ and listen to his promises, directives and assorted ‘lies’ when he takes ‘central command’ on the world stage when the Tribulation begins.
Christian Americans know this country is not our destination home. We have a ‘dual’ citizenship and we are merely passing through this world on the way to our Heavenly home. However, while we are here God has called us for a purpose, and that purpose includes being involved in the political affairs of our country to keep it a Christian nation honoring God. The spiritual battles we Christians face in this life will be painful, resulting in increased suffering and in some cases, martyrdom, but thanks to the ‘Good News of Jesus Christ’ found in the Bible, we know we ultimately ‘win the spiritual war’ against Satan. If you flip ahead to the last book of the Bible (like some people read the last chapter of a novel first) you will read in Revelation 20:10 “And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast (Anti-Christ) and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” But there are many battles for Christians to face until the time of the Rapture.
Dear Christian youth in America today—we adults need you to make a positive impact in our nation—your country needs you to become involved in reaching out to your peers, re-instilling a love of God, a love of Jesus Christ, a love for traditional family life, and a love for a Christian America in their hearts and minds, before the devil has a chance to ‘devour’ someone else. We adults in America had our chance to keep America the Christian nation we grew up in, but we, for the most part, are failing. It’s now up to you to create a Christian revival in America and restore people’s faith in God, and personal liberties in America, as intended by our ‘founding fathers’ who based their beliefs and the government they formed on Christian principles as provided to us by Almighty God.
It may seem a daunting task, but don’t let that stop you from making a positive difference in America’s future. Remember, Christianity itself began with the one solitary life of Jesus. His life, death, and resurrection, led a few believers in Christ Jesus to spread the gospel and Christianity to hundreds, then thousands, and then millions of other believers over time and right up to the present day. Satan and the world have tried in every way thinkable to extinguish Christianity ever since the early days of the apostles of Jesus Christ, but Christianity has prevailed and actually seems to be growing rapidly in some countries of the world today, but not so here in America—of all places. False teachings and religions of all kinds seem to be increasing in America, but not true Christianity.
The early Christians did not have great church buildings, or school buildings, or other public buildings available to them in which to gather and spread the ‘Good News of Jesus Christ.’ They met in homes and anywhere else they could find for their small groups to be safe from persecution. Pray for God’s direction on where to gather today—be it in homes, churches, school buildings when possible, community buildings when possible, or maybe just under a large shade tree somewhere in the big outdoors! There are many optional places to meet if one meeting place is blocked from you for whatever reason.
American youth need to read, study, and learn what the Bible has to say to us today. What the Bible has to say is as fresh for us in the 21st century as it was for the early Christians when the canon of Biblical books was first compiled, printed, and made available to the masses. Would you rather devour the Word of God, or be devoured by Satan? Keep in mind, your answer to this question has ‘eternal’ ramifications for you!
American youth also need to learn the truth about American history. It has been altered and rewritten so much over the years, especially since the early 1960’s, that it is impossible for youth today to get a clear picture and understanding of our nation’s original Christian foundation. Yes, you still need to attend school and honor your teachers with your attention and obedience in classes. The Bible says to “submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution…for such is the will of God.” (1 Peter 2:13-17) It’s just that student’s today need to supplement their formal studies in a school system with their own research and studies outside the school system to find out the truth about American history and the Christian foundation that made our country great and pleasing to God for over two centuries.
A real impact of change for the better in America could be realized if CYA (Christian Youth of America) youth groups were formed in every state, in every county, in every city and town across America, to study the Bible—and also to study true early American history. If you gather for a two-hour meeting, perhaps first study and discuss the Bible for one hour, then in the second hour study some early American history, followed by a discussion on how to apply the ‘Word of God’ in America today.
Praise God that Bibles are still easy to obtain, but it’s not so easy with early American history text books, those which presented an accurate account of American history. The best early American textbooks, formerly used in public schools, would probably be the ones used between 1836 and 1960. Some 120 million ‘McGuffey Readers’ were sold between the above mentioned years. Even from 1961 to today an average of 31,000 per year are sold for use primarily by homeschoolers and private schools. These readers are still easily obtainable for use as material in your study groups today. McGuffey Readers were graded primers widely used as textbooks in American schools between the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. William McGuffey interpreted the goals of public schooling in terms of moral and spiritual education, thus Christian principles and precepts were combined into the studies and learning process of American students. Other early 20th century history textbooks can be found in libraries and second hand bookstores. David Barton has published an excellent series of ‘Wall-Builders’ books over the years, which shed light on the American history that used to be taught in schools, but can no longer be found in today’s history textbooks.
These are not easy times for the youth of America. Many of you cannot find jobs after graduation from high school or even after graduation from college. If you are a Christian youth, rest assured that God will not forsake you; perhaps He is just looking to turn your adversity into an opportunity to serve Him in some other way. You just never know where your faith in God and your trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior will lead you. So as the Bible says, “gird your minds for action (be disciplined in your thinking), keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior.” (1 Peter 1:13-15)
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety upon Him, because He cares for you.”
(1 Peter 5:6-7)
“And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.”
(1 Peter 5:10)
God bless you Christian Youth of America! Your generation will soon be the next generation of leaders in the United States of America. The more Christians in places of influential leadership in America— the brighter our nation’s future will become. If you are old enough to vote this year—be sure to vote in the general election this November!
